The people of India I don't think now can feel safe in any city, what has happened today can happen anywhere. The government keeps making appropriate noises once the event occurs and then all dies down, the media will forget, the politicians will forget and once again people will sing praises about the Mumbaikar's resilience blah blah.
Sad day today.
While I understand the janta's enthusiasm and anger, do we really think the authorities can do anything to prevent such acts?
ReplyDeleteAll "intelligence" gained in such matters is thru informers - which is surely not the most reliable method. Such things will keep recurring all long as these groups feel that they can succeed.
The police are doing an exemplary job, and should be appreciated for what they are achieving. The most advanced countries have also never been able to prevent bombs going off.
We the people shall need to be more vigilant and help the police instead of sitting on our backsides and starting signature campaigns, which do not really achieve anything.
This is only politically motivated rhetoric.
Its a balance of both the views expressed above. Yest when I heard the noise I was in a cab at marine lines stuck in traffic. The feeling of helplessness was too great and profound. However, today on listening to various reports, if the people were vigilant in a place like Zaveri bazaar and opera house where it is so crowded that people can barely walk, this could have been averted. What was an open umbrella doing protecting the bomb in broad daylight. Why is there so much apathy among people towards their own security?
ReplyDeleteHowever on the other hand, the political system is such and so is the legal system that people think they can get away with almost anything. There are laws but people only know how to misuse them or find loopholes in them to twist them.
The Politicians have used it as a "sight-seeing" agenda creating more panic in an already sealed of city (at least south mumbai looks like a bastian) as reported by the media.
This has to stop somewhere! God Knows where??
You both have valid povs however what is the intelligence agency doing then...how come our intelligence agencies only get information post the event? Certainly not the right thing happening.
ReplyDeleteNo one is blaming the average policeman who is working towards doing whatever he can. I am talking about our government agencies, they are not dealing with some local `tadipar' that they should depend upon informers.
That apart what is the government and legal eagles doing. The idiot has been in jail for so long and we are spending tax payers money in keeping him alive for what, maybe Chidambaram can explain why.
Many times the government uses the `population' as an issue...so China is also huge population how come they dont have such issues.
How come we keep wanting to make peace with Pakistan when all are aware of their doings? these are hard questions which the government need to answer.
And people being more vigilant, honestly how many times has anyone called or investigated an object lying on the road...if one were to do that every time some junk is found on the road surely you agree that there is loads of it on the roads of Mumbai which looks suspect.
